Indianap olis reports a general committee decision to obey the United States Supreme Court mandate ending the nationwide bituminous coal strike. The panel of international officers district presidents and board members met Tuesday morning and adjourned to reconvene in the afternoon.
The Cranbrook Women’s Institute hosted a veterans social in Veterans’ Hall on Tuesday. J P Fink chaired the event, members and husbands managed arrangements, and refreshments followed a brief program. Vitrom pidrum Orchestra provided music. Wanda Fink performed two collas, Mayster delivered humorous readings, and Mrs Mallarg, Mia Rykman and J M Coutts accompanied.
James M. W. Hall a Boston timberman and financier and cousin Morris A. Hall arrived from Boston. They own timber interests in British Columbia along the Kootenay river and foresee a bright future for Cranbrook. Hall envisions spending part of the year here and possibly building a summer residence. He criticizes cold storage and notes U S Canada business ties improved in Roosevelt era. He has sold timber across the U S including Florida and believes BC is the last Great West with undeveloped resources. His visit will attract eastern capital to local development opportunities.
The mercury dropped to 12 degrees below zero Monday night before dawn on Tuesday. No wind lessened the chill for those used to cold weather. Mr. J. J. Smith, who keeps government records, supplied the report. By Wednesday morning the temperature again showed 12 below zero, with colder conditions noted than Tuesday.
City council met in regular session at city hall with Mayor Cameron and all aldermen present. A Cranbrook curling club delegation offered to rent the Arena rink. offer accepted. The Railway Trainmen union requested an arch for New Year dance. approval granted. Remington Typewriter rep discussed supplying a new typewriter. referred to finance committee. City engineer tasked to inventory Arena rink tools. Current accounts ordered paid. October engineer’s report filed. City hall offered to Mountain Lumbermen’s Assoc. for meetings. Fenwick avenue to be conformed for traffic. no on-thorugh coaster sport. Poolroom and health by-laws finalized and operative. Aldermen McKinnon, Shankland and Mayor to preside as revision court on December 10.

Dominion totals rise to 79,111,700 with Ontario at 20,002,450 and provinces across Canada contributing, with final figures expected as reports continue.
Rumor claims Evans Brothers of Cranbrook sold their high grade copper property at St Mary's to a Calgary syndicate with eastern Canada capital. Report says price near 250000 but unverified as Ryans Brothers cannot be located. If true, new owners may begin immediate development benefiting Cranbrook, twenty miles away.
The Winderemere District Association of Stock Breeders plans a Fat Stock and Dressed Poultry Show at the Dominion Government Experimental Station Invermere on Wednesday December 8 1919. It will be the district’s first event of this kind and directors strain to ensure its success.
Joby Tinmilton a 44 year old lumberman employed by East Kootenay Lumber Company died at Cranbrook Hospital Monday night from brain hemorrhage after a three week stay. The body rests at the undertakers and burial will be in Cranbrook cemetery.
In the vonnell chamber, City Hall, the Mountain Lumbermen's Association held a special meeting with many out-of-town members present. Attendees included H Ho Ross of Ross, Sask, Lumber Co Ltd, Waldo president, and officials from Otis Staples Lumber Co, Columbia River Lumber Co, Crows Nest Pass Lumber Co, Baker Lumber Co, Cranbrook Sash and Door Co, and others. Members reported strong lumber demand from eastern Canada and the United States, with prairie orders down due to light crops in Alberta and Saskatchewan. labor is ample and being distributed more evenly.
The province adopts The Sheriff's Act Amendment Act, replacing fee based sheriffs with salaries set by the lieutenant governor and council. Sheriffs had been reporting six years of earnings to gauge pay. returns were filed over a year ago, now enacted and applied provincewide.
The Cranbrook Herald reports merchants and other local businesses support the 1919 Victory Loan campaign. Government appeals praise the community spirit, noting advertising in the Herald demonstrates enterprise and belief in the loan’s broad civic importance.
Several carloads of cattle arrived Sunday from the Pineher Creek ranges and were shipped to market centers, serving as the distribution point for the stock. The animals were excellent specimens of range production.
About 1500 fine specimens of sheep arrived from Pullman Washington to Cranbrook in the foothills area. The American sheep raisers intend to operate on a large scale, believing the region holds strong potential for a thriving sheep industry. The venture will be closely watched by locals and industry observers.
Fernie ling 144 rinks selected for the coming curling season, and some great sport anticipated, according to enthusiastic curlers. Tenders are also being asked for a full sized golf course which will be pees for the golfers there next.
Cranbrook curlers held their annual meeting in city hall last Friday evening. President BK Howard chaired as finances were approved. A motion elected B. Howard as president for 1919 20 and Mayor Vanier as honorary president. Vice presidents were Shankland Burgess and A Wood. Rev H M Lyon to be secretary with ticketing and ice duties assigned. The infant Glenwood Thomas Shields, son of Mr and Mrs Roy Shields, was laid to rest last Friday from the family residence on Armstrong Avenue with interment at Cranbrook Cemetery. Rev Hugh McKay Lyon officiated the funeral service.
