London dispatch reports Bonar Law announcing in the House of Commons that arrangements are being made for the trial of the former Kaiser. The surrender request to the Netherlands awaits all powers signing the peace treaty.
The Ladies Auxiliary to the Great War Veterans' Association held a farewell at Mrs George T Smiths home for Mrs Shenfield who departs for England with her family on Saturday October 26. Annie M Laurie presented a token and the executive read a formal presentation expressing regret and best wishes for health prosperity and a pleasant voyage.
A party from the Wild Horse placer property including Mr. and Mrs. Harry Howler George J. Morrison Mr. and Mrs. H. Jones M Al Hamir P J Berkman C Cremer and EB Morse returned to the city and will depart for their homes for the winter. The mine will reopen in the spring.
Hon. W. L. MacKensie King was declared elected by acclamation as leader of the Liberals in the Dominion. Only his name was submitted to the returning officer in Summerside P E I according to the nomination results.
Edward Sail of a major shoe maker visited W. Hints store yesterday. He offered Mr. Hill a stock purchase at pre rise prices but Hill refused. local shoppers will keep benefiting from the low prices while the unbroken lasts hold.
The C P train from the East, due at Cranbrook at 12 10 p m, arrived at 6 30 p m after two freight cars derailed miles east of Cranbrook.
A YMCA meeting formed a bowling club schedule. Hyng boys face Supts at 7:00 p.m. All Stars meet Firemen at 8:30 p.m. Friday sees High School versus Offers at 7:00 and Sky Pilots against Yard Office at 8:30. Saturday features Despatcheraya engineers games with results posted last evening.
The Forward Movement reached Trail with Rev. H. M. Lyon leading events last week. A banquet opened proceedings with Rev. Ferguson Miller and local headers speaking. subsequent evenings featured Knox Haugh, Cranbrook pastor, on Reconstruction. Attendance grew, tributes praised the meetings, and officials expect strong outcomes. Lyon was urged to return to Trail early next year, and Roseland under United Church has invited him for similar meetings.
In Nontmorries Cannington Ontario Oct 21 Unionist candidate W J Cowan dies suddenly after a day of electioneering. He was 69 and had just been nominated to contest the seat vacated by Col Samuel Sharpe M P Opponent R H Hallbert the farmer postponed his Beaverton meeting out of respect and Cowan had been campaigning in multiple locations.
In St Just Cornwall the Levant mine cage collapse during lowering of the main winding engine sent about 150 men to the mine bottom. About forty miners were killed and many injured in the accident reported from Pennance England on October 21.
London dispatch reports Yudenitch stalled near Petrograd as Krasnaja Gorka fell opposite Kronstadt after hard fighting. The fight rages six miles south of Petrograd with Bolshevik regiments from Moscow defending the city.
Toronto results show all four questions rejected with Toronto voting No. Ontario overall backed dry by more than a two to one margin, with counts indicating large yes and no gaps across questions though the final totals are incomplete in the report.
TORONTO Oct. 22 Reports from South Grey indicate farmer candidate G M Leason is elected with a majority of 862 from 11 polls. Leading parties stand Conservaties 26 Liberals 28 United Farmers 43.
City council discussed renting the curling rink arena for the season with a committee appointed by the mayor. The engineer’s report and milk analysis were filed. A pool billiard room by law amendment was approved for first and third readings and copies ordered posted publicly. Also provincial time changes to be coordinated with nearby towns were instructed. Premier Borden urged Victory Loan success and Canada’s need to rely on domestic resources.
Victoria October 22 Coronel the Hon W G Prior is expected to become British Columbia's next Lieutenant Governor succeeding Sir Francis Barnard when his term ends in December He is a long time public figure businessman and former premier and cabinet minister with a career spanning business politics and military service.
A G Langley provincial mining engineer from Revelatoire spent the past week in the city examining mineral claims. He previously visited Croston and inspected the British Columbia Tron Company property at Kitchener, urging further development before diamond drilling begins.

Hon. H. F. Tolmie minister of agriculture in the Unionist government and Thoms Barnard returned soldier from New Westminster were nominated Monday afternoon to contest the Victoria federal bye election triggered by Tolmie's cabinet appointment and Barnard's opposition. Polling is set for Monday October 27.
The Privy Council ruled in favor of R. T. Ward in the Ward versus Hopp mining case tied to the Bullion Mine in the Cariboos near Quesnel Forks.
Sailors' Tag Day in Cranbrook raised 142.00 for Navy League support. The campaign run by local volunteers saw strong citizen participation and praise from Me McDonald of the Canadian Bank of Commerce for the committee's effort.
Last Friday in the G W A club rooms an informal dance hosted by veterans drew about thirty couples for an enjoyable evening. He owns large wheat lands in Alberta and traveled to inspect his ranches. He criticized British Columbia roads for poor marking and misleading folder information.
Hon. William Stow, Minister of Mines, reports resumption of coal and metalliferous production in Crow's Nest and Slocan regions after strike troubles. He notes enhanced activity, new ore bodies, and revived properties in Kootenay areas while in Nelson he discusses the French Complex Ore Reduction Company and its $85,000 government-guaranteed bonds. The minister will monitor mortgage actions for a month. President J H Finley of the University of New York spoke at the National Vocational Conference in Winnipeg.
Rev J P Sinclair of the Baptist church arrives home today after attending a Sunday School Teachers conference in Fernie. He left Sunday afternoon and preached at the Baptist church there prior to the trip.

The Craybrook Victory Loan Committee secures the Finlay Building as campaign rooms for the 1919 drive opening on the 27th.
