The Cranbrook Odd Fellows observe their 82nd anniversary with a night of ceremony and music at the Presbyterian church. In Moyie mining and mill activity expand with the St Eugene mine, dam projects, log shipments, and plans for spring operations as local businesses reopen and workers return.
W N Clarke who left Cranbrook with the Strathcona Horse returned yesterday from Ontario. He appears in good health and is busy greeting friends. He likely will remain in Cranbrook. On returning to Manotick his neighbors presented him with a fine gold watch inscribed for his South African services. The gift is described as beautiful and a source of pride.
Henry St Mary, a miner returning to Cranbrook, died at Fort Steele Junction after leaving a bound passenger train. Coroner Moffat ruled death from a medical complication. James Powers a 22 year old C P R fireman from Montreal drowned in the Kootenay river near Sirdar junction around 8 pm while canoeing with a companion named Johnson. The body was not recovered. two previous drownings in the same canoe involved Neville and Fletcher.
A dance hosted by Cranbrook baseball players last evening proved highly successful and enjoyable. The hall was well attended with a lively crowd, lunch served by the club, and the Home Sweet Home waltz closing around 1 30. Attendees praised the managing committee for a well run event.
A CPR delegation led by G. M. Bosworth G M Bosworth general traffic manager Montreal W R McInnes general freight agent Winnipeg H B McDonnell assistant general freight agent Nelson and Geo H Shaw Winnipeg visited Cranbrook for a day to meet local business people and review town prospects. The line will extend from Revelstoke to Lurdeau via telephone extension.
