Frank C Rankin writes from Cape Town aboard a troop ship, recounting rough seas, tropical heat, burial at sea, concerts by British Columbia squadrons, and daily life with jokes about uniforms, food, hammocks, and fellow officers as the South East Kootenay contingent travels toward Cape Town.

He encountered George Hoggarth at the Kiko hotel and saw Fred Roo and Julius Hurel, with Roo operating a hotel and Hurel awaiting developments before locating. Burge left for the Lardeau Wednesday for property and plans to return to Tobacco Plains for the summer.
