The Cranbrook Board of Trade met in the City Hall on February 22 with about twenty members present. President W A Nisbet spoke on slow progress in 1916 due to war and election unrest, urging renewed effort in 1917. Fernie Rinks Fall To Cranbrook In Fleischmann Cup
Curling action this week centered on the Fleischmann Cup with Cranbrook and Fernie rinks clashing in 18 end matches. Bowness and Hogarth led Cranbrook to victories over Fernie skippers Brown and Baldry, then Fernie retaliated with a nine to seven win in the rematch as ice proved tricky and late scoring by Cranbrook sealed the lead.

A Sunday evening Service of Praise at the Methodist Church featured a full organ recital and choir numbers. The program included solo and duet performances, violin solos, and varied choral pieces, ending with The Day Thou Gavest followed by benediction and vesper hymn.

Eugene Concentrator Fire Destroys Mine Plant At Moyle
A fire at 6:40 on Tuesday evening destroyed the St Eugene Concentrator on the Moyle site. Oil in timber sped the blaze, wrecking the plant beside the railway and causing losses prospectively exceeding one hundred thousand dollars. The Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company has spent about forty thousand on repairs since October, with insurance partly covering the damage. The town faces hardship as the Sullivan mine ore concentration and plant work are disrupted.

Women Form Non Partisan League in Cranbrook District
A meeting at the Rex Theatre on the 27th formed a Cranbrook District branch of the Non Partisan League. Mrs Baxter chaired as Rev W H Bridge and Mr W Irvine from Calgary spoke on suffrage and party politics, urging women to register and unite beyond party lines. A follow up to elect officers and continue the discussion was planned.

Bowling Tournament Decides 1916 17 Three Man Championship
The Brunswick Trophy event closes with the Shop Team winning by four points after three final games. Notable performances include Jupiter Shields with a 160.09 average and C. R. Paley at 154.6. A five man championship start next week, plus a high average gold medal, are planned. J. M. Dudley, railroad secretary, will visit the YMCA to meet directors.
