Those who attended previous recitals will know what to expect at Sunday evening’s song service and recital at the Methodist Church. The new Canadian Hymnal will be used. programme includes Bach, Verdi, Guilmant, Cruickshank, Sullivan and more with solos, duets, choruses, violin pieces, and organ numbers. Also advertised are children’s dresses and styles at The Fink.
On Monday afternoon at the bride Lillian Lee home in Fort Steele Miss Lillian Lee youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs J O Lee married J Eric Williamson of Bull River The ceremony was simple and impressive in the presence of intimate friends and was performed by Rev Thos Key worth of Cranbrook They enjoyed a sumptuous wedding breakfast then departed for a brief honeymoon before settling in Bull River
Miss Male Lowther daughter of Arthur and Lucilla Lowther of Calgary Alberta married Ernest Bradford shop foreman of P Burns and Co at the home of Rev Thomas Keyworth on Wednesday evening. The ceremony featured The Wedding March played by Mrs Ira Manning and a wedding breakfast followed by a short holiday visit before returning to Calgary.
Cranbrook residents can see The Battle of the Somme at the Tex Theatre on Wednesday and Thursday. The film is praised by British critics as the best war picture and a powerful portrayal of soldiers at the front.
Cranbrook B C February 19 1917 members of the Cranbrook Band honored their leader W R Russell who is leaving for Macleod to run a business. They presented an address and gold purse noting his year of teaching beginners without pay and guiding the band to solid engagements. Leadership passes to P A Parker as president and D A Kay as secretary.
The Musical Eckardts Swiss bell ringers will perform at the Auditorium on Monday February 26. They tour the United States and Canada and feature 350 Swiss hand bells plus odd instruments. The show includes Miss Buddy Beaty juvenile contralto and Happy Dick Coleman boy tenor and comedian.
Next Wednesday and Thursday the Rex Theatre will screen The Battle of the Somme with nationwide praise. Lions quotes from The King and Lloyd George call the film an epic of self sacrifice and a stark record of war’s reality. Critics hail its realism from the London Evening News to the Liverpool Courier.
Lent 1917 schedule from Christ Church lists Holy Communion daily at 7.45 a.m. and services on Sundays at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. with talks on The Pathway of Communion and Science and Religion. Weekly events include a Presence of God study, dramatic readings, social service circle, Martins readings, and prayers. Rev. W. H. Bridge invites parishioners.
Corbett couple welcome a daughter born on the 21st inst in Cranbrook. Horsman family announces a daughter born on February 19 in Cranbrook to Mr. and Mrs. T. O. Horsman.
