Mineral production in B C nears billion dollar mark
British Columbia is close to reaching a billion dollars in mineral production. John D. Galloway, new provincial mineralogist, reports 1924 totals show 86 shipping mines, 3,854 workers, and gross output of $48,704,604, with metalliferous products up 39.6 percent to $85,958,997. Fort Steele leads by tonnage and value with 1,083,714 tons worth $17,415,862. overall province-wide totals reach $859,427,386 to date, and the billion-dollar milestone is expected within three years.

Saturday at Cranbrook Lawn Tennis Club the annual local tournament finals produced close, merit-filled matches. Results: Men’s singles G. Simpson beat Dr. W. A. Fergie 2-6 6-4 8-6. Mixed doubles Simpson and his wife defeated Mrs. McIntosh and Mr. Evans 7-5 4-6 9-7. Ladies doubles McKowan and McDonald beat Simpson and Vergie 6-4 6-3. Ladies singles Mrs. Fergie beat Mrs. McIntosh 7-5 6-2. Men’s doubles Simpson and Stewart won. Cranbrook, with Kimberley visitors, topped the tourney by ten sets to six, and advocated clubhouse improvements.

Conductor J B Hall, on Crown line for twenty years, retired on the superannuated list July 1 and was honored at Sirdar with a handsome pipe from Sirdar and train crew friends. Hall’s 46 years of railroading were praised by company, colleagues, and the public.
