Cranbrook Lawn Tennis Club hosts American tournament
The Cranbrook Lawn Tennis Club will hold an American tournament on Saturday the 17th with mixed doubles entries set at 2d. The secretary urges all members to participate to benefit the Tobacco Fund for soldiers. The fund is run by the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire, aiding the Indies with time and service, and two prizes will be awarded to the winning Indy and the winning gentleman.

Cranbrook citizens prepare for next Wednesday's Sports Day at the grounds. Free rides from the post office corner at 1 PM, a full program of races and games, and a dance to end the day. Proceeds benefit the Cranbrook Branch of the Canadian Patriotic Fund to aid soldiers' dependents. Admission 50 cents, children 10 cents, under eight free. Tickets sold by committees.

A quiet wedding was held at Christ Church on Wednesday July 14 at ten in the morning. Miss Marion Rumsey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Rumsey, wed Cornelius Van Braam of Cranbrook after a ceremony conducted by Rev. W. Hy Tiridge. The couple, escorted by relatives and friends, left for a honeymoon destination by Westbound train, amid rice showers at the station. Mrs. Rumsey is noted as a popular dancing teacher. Van Braam is well known in the town.

Big fish caught by Yahk visitors on Sunday
John Noble and companions Jack Haslam A P Noble and R W Russell visited Yahk on Sunday and secured a good catch that reduced the lake depth by about six inches. They posed with photos of the catch while Noble Jr shared a humorous tale of a giant sea monster, and Beattie Murphy farm installed a modern threshing machine on St Marys Prairie to begin harvest operations.

Pete Boyle East Kootenay pioneer dies at 112
Pete Boyle longtime East Kootenay resident and Wild Horse Creek pioneer died Sunday at St Eugene hospital at age 112. Born in Limerick Ireland he moved to Cranbrook during the Wild Horse gold rush and later farmed at Cherry Creek. Funeral was held Tuesday at St Marys Church with pallbearers named John H McDonald Harry Drew Peter Woods and George Hoggarth.

Local Orangemen Celebrate 12th Picnic With Music and Sports
The local Orangemen held a Monday picnic by the little i stand to mark the 12th anniversary with a large turnout of members and friends. No parade due to many serving at the front. Ladies Auxiliary attended as Mr. John Fingal Smith entertained on bagpipes and was praised as one of the oldest members. A sports program followed with winners listed by age and gender, including Connie Bassett and Irene Linnel among the top finishers.

In a letter dated June 17 1916 Private F Woodward reports from France. He mentions Cranbrook casualties at Festubert including Bob Henry killed and Billy Harrison wounded, notes only two Cranbrook Contingent members remain, and provides his Canadian Scottish unit details.
