Central Schools program delights audience at auditorium

An evening program in the Auditorium theater featured an orchestra with Mrs. R. W. Edmonton and Vincent Fink plus performances by 60 Central School children. Vincent Fink and Wanda Fink gave violin solos while Thomas Skeyhill spoke on Gallipoli and the need for peaceful labor reform and League of Nations support.

All Mining Districts Showing Up Good Yearly Production Totals 1906 1919

The report lists total production values by year from 1906 to 1919 with figures for gold silver copper lead zinc and ore treated. It includes 1919 estimates for December and full year totals, and ore receipts through December 21 1919.

Women's Institute Eleventh Annual Meeting Reports War Reconstruction Work

The eleventh annual meeting of the Women's Institute was held in the Parish Hall with about 40 present. Mrs D Campbell retired president opened, noting postwar apathy and urging support for education health and returning soldiers. Reports praised yearly work, mothers pensions, district nurses, Red Cross, and welcoming new settlers and war brides.

Big mine deal consummated and prospector’s association formed

The Evans Brothers mining claims in the St Marys district were settled for about 200000 dollars to Calgary and eastern capitalists. Charles Evans was elected president of a newly formed Prospectors Association at a well attended City Hall meeting. The group aims to educate prospectors, foster cooperation with public bodies and boards of trade, and promote better conditions and investment transparency. Final payments include 20000 cash and 75000 next spring.

Stockbreeders and ranchers meet in Cranbrook year-end gathering

A large adjourned session of the East Kootenay Stockbreeders Association and Cranbrook Farmers Institute convened in Cranbrook last Saturday. P Woods presided as officers were elected for 1920 and Chief Forest Ranger Norman Moore explained the Rangers Act.

Nation urged to democratize as example to overthrow Bolshevism

Officials urged health and education as nation’s assets to prevent war and promote peace. A new road from Erickson to Kitchener, about a mile and a quarter long, diverts the trans provincial highway reducing grade from 24 percent to seven and a quarter. District Engineer William Ramsay oversaw the project with contractor George Hunt.

Provincial Mining Association Aims for Provincial Organization

The local mining association plans to widen its reach before a great chill and to secure provincial support. Overtures have been made by the Nelson Association through President Mulholland, who will visit this week. The group hopes a provincial body will back prospectors and stimulate local mining activity.

Fernie Annexes Fleishman Cup Curling showdown at Fernie

Fernie curlers arrived Saturday and defeated Cranbrook 40 to 38 to seize the Fleishman Cup. Club members included W. Baldrey G. G. Henderson F. Cavenwick A Corrie H Brown M A Knotner and Sherwood Hebner. Cranbrook plans a return challenge.

Across Canada With the Prince souvenir printed by CPR

The souvenir Across Canada With the Prince prepared by the Canadian Pacific Railway publicity department is a highly printed publication tied to the Prince of Wales visit to Canada. It includes numerous half tone photographs of the heir at many visited sites and will likely be preserved for years. The Herald thanks R. W. Fox of CPR publicity for a copy.
