Contest for Aldermen Produces Bowness Sweep

March 30 city election yields a dominant Bowness ticket result with Lester Clapp topping the poll at 427 votes and W S Santo leading Citizens with 182. Total 468 ballots, two spoiled. Voters used many automobiles to reach the polls amid street interest and crowding at night.

Death of Rev. Ernest Flewelling Widens Community Loss

The death of Rev. Ernest Vardy Flewelling rector of Cranbrook and rural dean of the Kootenay diocese occurred last Friday evening. He served across Canada and was born March 11 1846 in Clifton New Brunswick. Survived by four children and siblings, his funeral at Christchurch drew many friends and floral tributes. The service was led by Archdeacon Beer with Rev A B Lane assisting.

The last basketball league game at the Young Men s Club saw the Beavers defeat Use Athletics 27 to 22. Ashworth scored 19 for the Beavers while McKain led Athletics with 14. The Night team also posted a 17-10 win in the preliminary.

Dance at St Mary's Hall Promises a Fine Evening

A dance is planned at St Marys hall on Tuesday 26 April with Cranbrook orchestra four pieces. Free refreshments will be served and funds go toward paying off the hall piano debt. Supporters urged to attend for enjoyment and a good cause.

Bonners Ferry faces Cranbrook in a Saturday night game at the Auditor ium theatre with Bonners Ferry touted as Northern Idaho champions. The Cranbrook team vows strong defense and a keen attack as kickoff crowds expect a heated, crowd-pleasing matchup plus a preliminary ladies game.

Funeral of prominent Cranbrook lodge member noted

Cranbrook lodge No. 64 A F and A M attended the funeral in a body with about seventy five present. The service was Magonle and the impressive last rites were given at the grave. Pallbearers included Dr F W Green P DeVere Hunt N A Wai Inger Dr F B Miles Judge G H Thompson and W C Crebbin. The body lay in state at the Church of England cemetery where a long cortege escorted the procession. Public buildings were half masted and business houses closed during the funeral hour. Chief mourners were Mrs Towgood of Sandon B C and Mrs Bastin of Salt Spring Island near Vancouver.

Vaudeville at Auditorium Delivers High Class Bill

One of the best vaudeville programs on the Pantages circuit played the Auditorium last night. The Three English Roses danced to Scotch reel and hornpipe, Aiken Figg and Duffy sang well with a fine rendition of The Lost Chord. The Three Shentons impressed as singers and novelty dancers followed by Buck and wing, Dutch dog and cowboy acts. Jane Barber and Joe Jackson drew laughs with a quirky musical comedy bit. The Garden of the Rajah closed the show, and the new Auditorium orchestra, featuring the Parker brothers Miss Plo Baldwin and Mr Walsh, offered several renditions enhancing the evening.

Charlie McCowan Wounded in World War I Service

Cranbrook mourns as Charlie McCowan, early WWI volunteer, is seriously wounded in the head on March 20 while serving Britain. Beautifying Central Public School Grounds Aimed

The Central Public School grounds will be fenced and an 18 foot wide interior border laid for gardens. A 16 foot edge border will run along cement walks with each teacher supervising plots and prizes from the Education Department for top displays. The project, supported by Dominion and Provincial education departments, aims to teach children garden skills and love of soil cultivation.
