Bridge Dynamiters New Custody Reported
Joe Sugus and Pete Robertson, coal mine workers from Atherton Indiana, were arrested on charges of dynamiting the Eastern Illinois railway bridge over the Wabash river at Clinton in late April. They were seized at their homes by a task force including William Sloan and Frank Smith, with Chief Vanneea and a Parke county constable. Evidence is largely circumstantial, with witnesses placing the pair on the bridge with a package and fuse before and after the explosion. The men are jailed in Vermillion county and Clinton respectively. more arrests are expected.
