The dedication ceremony for a great organ will be held Sunday morning with Rev. M. H. Appleby delivering a strong sermon. No collection will be taken. An interesting program will accompany the service.
Sunday morning marked the formal dedication of the recently installed 9 000 pipe organ at the M E church. The program included an organ prelude hymns solo a sermon by Rev. Appleby of Lebanon a dedicatory address and the presentation of the organ for dedication by the Board of Trustees president and closing ceremonies.
The church dedicated a $2000 organ funded by a Carnegie gift of 75000 after weeks of effort by Rev. Dougherty and the congregation. Miss Beulah Watkins led the organ as Rev M H Appleby preached on Music and its Part in Divine Worship. Editor J B Schwin presented the organ on behalf of the Board of Trustees.
On and after Sept 1 1909 milk will cost 7c per quart cream 15c per pint cash only five gallon lots 25c per gallon. Wagon milk delivery once daily each morning bottles must be returned washed. Klage Co County Superintendent Livengood traveled to Bloomington to recruit High School teachers amid a county shortage. Trustees refused to re hire certain former teachers. Floyd Gilmore six months died from dysentery funeral at Benson Chapel led by Rev Scott. Bereaved circle expresses sympathy.
Washington reports Senator Beveridge will push a tariff commission review and tighter tobacco coupon bans at the next Congress. He also seeks changes to the anti injunction law, including notice before temporary injunctions and time limits before hearings on continuance or dismissal.
The senator as lawyer and student of court procedure argues that temporary injunctions too often run indefinitely and become de facto permanent. He says this practice harms the adverse party and should not be permitted.
J. D. Bybee of Canyon City Texas has left Fountain county after a month visiting friends and his ill brother Elias. He owns 320 acres in the Panhandle and is content with his Texas home. Ed Diffenderfer also returned to Texas to see the children.
Samuel S Shaeffer, about 68, died at his Wingate home at 2 a m Sunday after a long illness of dropsy. He leaves a widow who is a sister of the late Mrs Or Board. Born December 24 1840 in Manchester county Paglo he served two and a half years in the Union Army and later moved to Indiana. He joined Osborn's Prairie church in 1878 and was a strong prohibitionist. Funeral services were held in Wingate Tuesday attended by relatives from the city and section.
Rev John S Board of Stone Bluff preached a memorial sermon for Rev J T Phillips at Osborn Prairie church. Phillips served as minister in Fountain county for many years and died in Frankfort. Board, a lifelong friend, delivered the tribute at one of Phillips' former charges before a large attentive crowd.
Elmer Harden sustained severe burns to his left arm and hand when a rusted gasoline tank exploded during repair. The tank had been unused, tested with a small amount of gasoline, and the bottom was being removed with a soldered seal opened. Dr. Hicks treated the injuries and expects a few days of recovery.
A. Brown thanks the host of neighbors and friends who aided his wife during her illness and stayed by him in his sorrow. He expresses gratitude and faith that God will reward their kindness.
Fire at the Attica M E parsonage caused by defective wiring destroyed the upper story including Rev Hoagland's library and much furniture. Loss about $3,000 with $1,000 insured on the building. repairs planned and rebuild expected. Neighbors alerted firefighters at about 1:30 to 1:45 Tuesday morning. occupants were away at Ravine Park.
The Covington Cubs evened their series with Williamsport in a one sided game at the fair ground last Sunday. After a prior heavy loss at Williamsport the Cubs vowed to win and routed the visitors by a wide margin with strong hitting led by Charlie and Willie Hirshbeel and the twins.
A five year old boy was bitten by dogs belonging to Dr. Longacre on Tuesday evening. Local reports indicate concern over the incident and the child’s condition.
