Big crop year forecast with a few states leading
USDA data project a record crop year with 7.7 billion bushels of corn and major shares of sorghum, wheat, rice, barley, oats, rye, soybeans, and cotton. State breakdowns show Iowa and Illinois dominating corn, Kansas and Texas leading sorghum, Minnesota and others atop oats, and North Dakota Idaho and Washington strong in barley and wheat. Almena Acorn plot field day set for Sept 17 in Barron County to view 58 corn varieties and hear UW extension programs on tillage and production.

Huge grain crops to curb prices and help dairy farmers
Chicago Mercantile Exchange president Clayton Yeutter warned Midwest governors that record crops, led by corn, could trigger hardship for farmers via low prices while possibly aiding dairy producers in the short term. He cautioned about long term effects and noted farmers still have last year’s grain stored, facing tough selling choices.
