Thorp cheesemaker retires as a champion
Thorp cheesemaker Lyle Christensen retires after long career highlighted by blue cheese glory at the state fair. He earned a Governor's Sweepstakes award among four yearly honors, helped the local plant grow by purchasing 66 million pounds of milk from 175 area farmers, and contributed to the blue and Gold N Rich cheese lines. Other winners include Roland Tess for fresh cheddar, Roland Gorges for Swiss, and Eugene Creviston for butter.
