Park project and floating island featured on tour in Barron County
About 50 to 60 people attended the River Country RC&D picnic and tour hosted by the Barron County land conservation committee and the Village of Cameron. Visitors saw a $65,000 shelter at Guy Speirs Park nearing completion and an $18,000 plan to stabilize Cranberry Creek flowage with 100 feet of steel piling. The tour also reviewed Prairie Lake’s floating island problem affecting roughly 60 property owners, with proposed fixes and costs beyond local resources. Boyd Huppert, UW-River Falls student, will receive a $1,000 RTNDA James McCulla Scholarship in Las Vegas for a 15 minute farm preservation documentary.
