Senate panel fights changes to school lunch nutrition goals
The Senate Agriculture Committee unanimously adopted a resolution opposing any reductions in the minimum one third of the daily nutrient allowance provided by school lunches. Officials cautioned the Reagan plan could lower meat, vegetable, milk, and bread portions, but a revised plan aimed at saving money may still be submitted. The issue centers on meals for about 26 million students, including roughly 12 million from low income families.
