Assembly votes to change inheritance tax law
The Wisconsin Assembly approved an 89 to 7 measure to eliminate inheritance and gift taxes on transfers between spouses. Sponsored by Rep. Lary Swoboda, the plan aims to relieve widows and widowers, with farm wives a key group pushing for relief amid concerns of double taxation and potential land sales to cover taxes. The bill aligns with Gov. Dreyfus but may clash with the budget-adjustment bill the Democratic-controlled body plans to review next.
