Veteran Galesville grower seeks seat on new soybean board
Jens Vosseteig, 54, a long time farm operator from rural Galesville, says he is anxious to work on Wisconsin’s newly elected Soybean Marketing Board. He plans to use state checkoff funds for market research and projects, aims to boost new markets, and will plant about 200 acres of soybeans this year while adapting to payments in kind and shifting crop plans. He expects cooperation with the Wisconsin Soybean Association and American Soybean Association to guide worthwhile initiatives.

Only 977 of 4,771 ballots were returned April 19 to May 6, with 65.4 percent approving the market order which starts a 2 cent per bushel checkoff. The board will meet in July and begin the checkoff around Sept. 1, funding research and programs in soybeans nationally and internationally.

May 25 Final Planting Date For FCIC Insured Crops
Wayne Brenholt, ASCS county executive director, notes May 25 is the final planting date for oats wheat or barley insured by FCIC or by FCIC reinsured private companies. He adds that farmers unable to plant before May 25 due to excess moisture may sign a 20 day late planting agreement which allows insurance coverage but lowers the guarantee.
