Colby family adopts wild burros from BLM program
The Eugene Derfus family in rural Colby adopted two wild burros Isaac and Lenore from the Bureau of Land Management in a February shipment. After a lengthy process involving forms and interoffice delays, they traveled to meet an Ohio farmer's burros and brought them home with no adoption fee beyond transport and veterinary costs. Lenore is foal pregnant, Isaac and Lenore will remain BLM property for a year with potential permanent ownership, while BLM checks ensure welfare. the animals are tame and can be ridden by the family’s children.
