Wisconsin cheese makers file USDA complaint on price undercutting
The Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association led by President Stephan Bahl charges foreign producers from Denmark West Germany and France subsidize Swiss type cheeses to undercut U.S. prices. Platteville and Fennimore cheese firms also filed complaints under USDA rules. The USDA has 30 days to act on whether subsidized cheese undermines domestic production and raises future prices.

Gunderson to hear testimony on budget impact May 16
Rep. Steve Gunderson will hear testimony from area residents on the impact of the proposed federal budget on low income people. The public hearing runs 9 30 to 11 a m at Glenwood City Community Center 217 W Oak St. Testifiers must register between 9 and 9 30 a m and may speak up to five minutes. Written testimony will be forwarded to the congressman after the hearing. The event is open to the public.

Rice Lake dairyman named officer of cooperative's young farmer group
Brad Chandler of Rice Lake was elected northern Wisconsin regional vice president of Wisconsin Dairies Cooperative Young Farmer Coordinators, joining seven officers for one year. Other officers include Jim Koch of West Union Iowa as president and Marilyn Newhouse of Decorah Iowa as secretary. Chandler, who farms 300 acres and milks 60 cows, seeks a rolling herd average of 20,000 pounds of milk and 700 pounds of butterfat per cow.
