Erosion control planned for Chippewa River sites
The U S Army Corps of Engineers aims to test erosion control demonstrations on the lower Chippewa River later this year. Projects target Elk Bank near Elk Creek and Happy Bank and Yellow Bank near Nine Mile Island northeast of Durand. The effort, supported by half a million dollars, seeks economical, effective controls and would be run by the Corps for five years before local transfer.

Rice Lake Farm Electric Show to Feature 35 Exhibits
Barron County hosts its first Farm Electric Show April 6-9 at Cedar Mall Rice Lake with more than 35 exhibits of farm equipment. Manufacturers' reps will demonstrate silo unloaders barn cleaners electric insect control systems dairy equipment tractors steel buildings and more. Hours vary daily from noon to 9 p.m. on April 6 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on April 7 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 8 and noon to 5 p.m. on April 9.

Record prices at Barron County Holstein sale tops year prior
The fifth annual Barron County Holstein Breeders spring sale drew a record crowd and produced an $83,400 gross from 62 animals. Top calf sold for $2,100 at Deer Lake Farms. top cow brought $2,700 for a 4 year old owned by Reuben and Ted Johnson. Consignors spanned Barron, St. Croix, Polk, Dunn, Chippewa, Eau Claire and beyond. Receipts marked the highest in local association history as interest in registered cattle grows.
