Deere official says farm equipment shakeout will end in 1990s
Deere and Company official R W Porter told Wisconsin Farm Equipment Association members the farm implement dealer shakeout will shrink capacity and force consolidation. He warned many dealers and some manufacturers may go out of business as demand remains weak, though world population growth could spur future markets. Delegates reported full exhibitor space and strong interest, but farmers and dealers noted slower sales as buyers wait for more favorable prices and improved productivity. The speaker urged dealers to talk with suppliers and neighboring dealers to decide whether to stay or sell.
