Calf barn air system cools and warms with earth temp
Richard Navarre of Fountain City explains a $200 calf barn ventilation setup using 65 feet of underground 8 inch tubing to draw outside air, heat or cool it to about 58 degrees, and push it into the barn. He notes improved humidity and no condensation, with potential for dairy poultry and hog use.

Dairy couple slashes costs with 66 degree barn climate
Richard and Dorie Navarre, dairy farmers from Cumberland, installed a homemade air cooling system that digs an 11 foot trench and uses a discarded dryer motor to blow 58 degree air into their barn. The constant circulation prevents winter condensation, reduces odors, and keeps calves healthy, contributing to a rolling herd average above 18,500 pounds. The Navarres moved nine years ago from Quincy Illinois seeking a dairy career and now run a 30 cow operation on a 275 acre farm with plans to maintain growth only as it fits their schedule.
