Wisconsin names Ed Lump 1985 June Dairy Month Chairman
Ed Lump, executive vice president of the Wisconsin Restaurant Association, is named 1985 June Dairy Month Chairman. He will promote dairy foods and serve as spokesman for Wisconsin’s dairy industry at civic and social events statewide, stressing links between food service and dairy quality. The observance is sponsored by the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board UW Extension the June Dairy Month Advisory Committee and the Wisconsin DATCP. This marks the 49th year.

Doug Maddox of AuAnn Dairy East in Avon New York and AuAnn West in Riverdale California argued at the Wisconsin Holstein Association convention that milk yield per cow is the key to profitability. His herds average 20 000 pounds per cow annually across operations including 180 registered Holsteins in New York 700 in California and 3000 in Burrel. He emphasized individual cow management genetics feeding and mastitis control plus incentive pay and worker communication. He noted advances in genetic engineering embryo techniques and sexed sperm, predicting gradual improvements within 10 to 20 years and noting current limits in embryo storage and thawing.
