Dairymen urged to raise herd output before feed additives
UW River Falls dairy experts urged farmers to first meet basic production targets before investing in additives. Dr Mahanna outlined a plan to raise averages to 16 000 pounds per cow with proper feeding, cost knowledge, and DHI and Forage Council participation. He cited Wisconsin lags in per cow output despite high grain use and reviewed acids, proteins, and additives like propylene glycol and Niacin as potential aids after basics are met.
