Groundwater policy hearings feature farmer losses and pesticide concerns
Stevens Point cattleman James Trader told DNR examiners last week that nitrate pollution from neighboring farms has cost him thousands of dollars in cattle losses. He also found seven or eight potato pesticides in his well water, though he raises no potatoes. Traders joined others in Stevens Point and Madison urging tougher groundwater contamination restrictions. Donald Geiger of rural Custer presented petitions at the Stevens Point session.
