Weather study links precipitation to terrain and soil in western Wisconsin
University of Wisconsin Eau Claire geographer Richard Palm reports first year results from 55 volunteer observers across 15 counties. Elevation and soil types appear to influence yearly precipitation and summer storms, with notable snow variation between Dunn and surrounding counties. The project, funded by a 1500 grant, runs three years to aid farmers, stressing precipitation patterns over temperature due to faulty thermometers.
