Better prices expected for state's new crop lambs
Wisconsin shepherds optimistic on prices as stock sheep drop to a record low 66,000 head while total Wisconsin sheep and lambs rise to 81,000. Officials foresee stronger prices in 1985 with a potential low 70s per hundredweight, aided by tighter supplies and demand.

Don’t write off those bummers expert says
Shepherds face orphan lambs when ewes reject or cannot feed them. Dr. Woody Lane at UW extension shares an inexpensive method to rear lambs on milk replacer hours after birth, wean in about 14 days, and save time and money. He uses a Lamb Bar nipple system with cow colostrum then milk replacer, kept cold to regulate intake, plus starter feed to encourage early solid feed.
