Rally at Ames Highlights Farm Unity on ISU Campus

At Iowa State University a rally branded as an unusual display of farm unity drew about 20,000 farmers from across the Midwest. Leaders from six national farm groups, with 11 state speakers, pressed Washington to aid agriculture amid foreclosures and job losses. Bishop Maurice Dingman displayed crosses echoing losses and warned of an end to the American dream if no action is taken. Dean Kleckner of the Iowa Farm Bureau urged policies to cut rates and expand a safety net, while Francis Lipska warned agriculture’s troubles ripple nationwide and worldwide.
