Farmers push tax reform and DNR concerns at Wisconsin meeting
Wisconsin Rural Development Center held the first of ten meetings to collect farmers’ views for the Governor’s Commission on Agriculture and legislators. Farmers pressed lower property taxes for schools, more DNR action on deer damage, and fewer corporate farm and absentee owner tax breaks. They urged funding shifts from sales or income taxes to support public education and called for changes to investment credits to curb tax avoidance by wealthy investors. Local control fears and erosion concerns were raised as rural Wisconsin is seen as declining.
