Wisconsin moose transplant plan rejected by NRB vote
Plan to import moose from Minnesota into northern Wisconsin was shelved after an NRB 6-1 vote. Wildlife manager Burt Dahlberg cited high costs and uncertain protection of transplanted animals, noting Wisconsin moose numbers are a "handful or less" amid past poaching and declining sightings since the 1950s.

Lake Pepin to receive striped bass
Lake Pepin will get an experimental stocking of striped bass this summer. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources sponsors the project with consent from Wisconsin officials, who say there is no objection and no evidence the bass will harm existing walleye in the lake. Wisconsin deputy director Bill Threinen notes limited enthusiasm but not opposition.

Wild turkeys die in Buffalo County Missouri stock plants
Two of twenty wild turkeys released from Missouri into central Buffalo County near Modena have died. A hen was struck on a rural road and a 14-pound tom was killed by a dog while weakened. DNR wildlife manager Bob Cochrane expects the remaining 18 birds to fare as they defend rugged hardwood ridges. Monitoring will continue through winter with a spring gobbling count planned in April.
