Tobacco allotments for Trempealeau and Jackson counties
Trempealeau County ASCS Director Mike Hofberger says Trempealeau and Jackson counties have received 1978 tobacco acreage allotments. Trempealeau has 69 allotments allowing 78.33 acres. Jackson has seven allotments for 11 acres. Nationwide allotments largely hold at 1977 levels with some reductions for farms under 75 percent recent planting history. Temporary transfer of allotment acreage remains permitted. Eau Claire Guernsey Breeders announce their annual farm tour on March 4 meeting at the Big Steer in Osseo at 11 a.m. After dinner, tours include farms of Fred Moseley, Ron Curran and Tom Nehring. A small tobacco acreage reserve continues for farmers with no five-year history. Referendums are mailed to tobacco growers to decide on continuing marketing quotas for the 1978-80 crops.
