Granton Wins Clark County Soil Judging Contest
Granton High School's soil judging team took first place at the Clark County contest held at Joe Boden farm north of Thorp. Loyal and Neillsville finished second and third amid entries from Owen-Withee Colby Greenwood and Abbotsford. Top individual was Mike Paschke of Loyal with Neillsville’s Jim Schmitt second and Granton’s Tim Parker third. Thirty-one FFA members from seven senior and two junior teams competed under supervision by Keith Foye and John Langton for the county conservation committee. The event preps for the state FFA soil judging contest July 19 at Clark County Hospital as part of Farm Progress Days.

Monroe Holstein breeders meet at Cashton July 15
The Monroe County Holstein Breeders Association will hold its annual twilight meeting July 15 at John and Patricia Herricks farm on Rt. 3 Cashton. Activities begin with a cattle judging contest at 7:30 p.m. and include talks on linear evaluation, mating, dairy reproduction, and infrared forage analysis. Bring forage samples or diseased plants for analysis and call the Monroe County Extension Office for details.
