House panel approves humane slaughter bill expansion
The House agriculture committee approved a bill extending humane slaughter standards to all government inspected meat plants and to imported meat. Sponsored by Rep. George Brown, the measure would cover about 276 plants not currently government certified, with penalties for violators and a ban on foreign meat noncompliance.
