Winter wheat yields rise with intensive management in Wisconsin
Dodge County wheat yields show strong gains from intensive management. Luckow reports yields jumping from 105 to 125 bushels per acre with fungicide and nitrogen stabilizers, while 60 bushels can reach 90 to 100. The program costs about 2.80 per bushel to break even, and winter wheat supports rotation, early harvests, and dairy straw demand. Government policy may affect future production.

FmHA Faces Backlog as Foreclosures Slow in Era Reforms
The FmHA, a major U.S. landowner, reduced foreclosures from 356 in 1983 to 89 in 1984 and 34 in the first half of 1986. After a federal court order, new procedures were outlined, including borrower alternatives. About half of foreclosed farms were voluntary, 40 percent came from other lenders liquidations, and the agency could hold over 20,000 properties by year end. The lender targets delinquent accounts amid its role as the government's farm lender of last resort.
