Reagan proposal seeks 5 billion line of credit for Farm Credit System
The Reagan administration urged a 5 billion line of credit over 10 years to help the Farm Credit System, funded by system surplus and land transferred from the Farmers Home Administration. The proposal, debated in House Agriculture Committee hearings, aims to restructure and simplify the system amid rising troubled loans and prior losses. FCA would manage the debt reserve fund. Senators and representatives weighed 5 to 6 billion in direct aid, with no consensus yet.
