Wisconsin beef groups split on 200 million pound import boost
The Country Today surveyed a Chippewa Falls packer, a Cumberland rancher and a Cobb farmer to gauge reactions to President Carter’s plan allowing about 200 million more pounds of foreign beef. Some warn imports could lift domestic prices if dairy farmers withhold cull cows, while others say the impact is minor since the amount is small per person and will bring more boned meat into hamburger production.
