River Falls honors two UW River Falls faculty members
UW River Falls professor Dr. Dean W. Henderson received the Distinguished Teacher Award for 1976, while Rudy Erickson earned honorary membership in the campus Block and Bridle Club. Capelle says the award will recognize significant contributions to animal agriculture annually. Erickson is a UW Extension livestock specialist and former Dunn County agent, active in multiple cattle and sheep associations and now president of the Wisconsin Polled Hereford Association. Henderson, on the faculty since 1968, has led the animal and food science department and served as a meat specialist with UW Extension. He is noted for practical teaching, mentoring, and strong student counseling.

Bergland faults beef quota cuts amid high prices
Agriculture Secretary Bob Bergland argued last week that cutting U.S. beef import quotas would have little effect on persistently high prices. He cited ongoing drought recovery and a global shortages as drivers, noting beef prices rose about 80 percent in April. He said inflation measures will take time and that U.S. farm products should not be used as a diplomatic weapon.
