Plans for the 30th annual Farm Progress Days in July 1921 at Clark County face a new challenge as organizers improvise on horse and buggy parking due to the arrival of Amish farmers. County Agent Arv Depp notes the issue was previously overlooked despite 29 prior events.
Farm Progress Days will feed Owen area visitors with 15,000 ham and cheese sandwiches and 42,000 hot dogs, plus 25,000 pounds of ice cream and 130,000 cups. Depot volunteers from Clark County organizations will staff 44 workers per tent daily, as the 30th edition runs three days.
Postmistress Dorothy Bjornstad of Owen unveils a commemorative stamp cancellation for the 30th Farm Progress Days. The special cancel will be used only during the three days and then destroyed at the Chicago regional office after a six month review. Mrs Bjornstad will run a mini-postal unit on the Clark County Health Care Center grounds selling stamps post cards and envelopes for visitors to mail with the special cancellation.
