Wisconsin oats lead list of promising varieties in 1982
UW Extension agronomist Ed Oplinger at seed dealer meetings ranked Dal as Wisconsin’s top oat, with Cal, Ogle, Porter and Moore among others on the promising list. Ogle showed the highest yields in university and county plots, while Cal is the most grown variety. Wisconsin oat acreage hit 1.1 million with about 58 million bushels produced in 1982. A farm records meeting for Durand on February 2, with Robert Luening as speaker, helps farmers plan profitability and efficiency.

Six milk orders merged into single Texas dairy rule
The 5th U S Circuit upheld the secretary of agriculture’s decision to merge six Texas milk marketing orders into one. The move created a uniform minimum price for producers and extended federal coverage to more counties, though a referendum by milk handlers rejected the change. The Corpus Christi area would see a lower minimum price under the new order.
