Weisenbecks Use Innovation In Dairy Management
The father-and-son team Darrell and Dan Weisenbeck of Durand blend gradual upgrades with unique systems to run Mountain Prairie Farms. Their tri-level dairy uses a calf barn, a 220-foot free stall barn for 100 cows, AI breeding in a new heifer shed, and a KaMar heat detector to improve calving by late fall. They report 17,807 pounds of milk and 687 pounds of fat from 96 cows.

State transportation officials will inspect the blue Cornell bridge over the Chippewa River for structural damage after a single 4 inch crack was found in steel similar to the damaged Prairie du Chien bridge. Prairie du Chien bridge closure disrupts travel and hospital access for residents and Iowa neighbors. Barron County Holstein Breeders hold their annual meeting January 29 at noon in the Barron County courthouse with a potluck and a presentation by Bob Cropp of UW Platteville.
