1981 Fruit outlook predicts ample supplies and stable profits
Agricultural economist Ben W. Huang forecasts the 1980 81 fruit season will mirror the prior year with ample supplies and record or near record production for apples grapes and oranges. Lower grower prices likely but retail prices rise modestly. overall grower returns rise though higher labor and energy costs may cut profits. Citrus crops especially oranges remain at record highs with large carryover stocks keeping prices weak.
