Wisconsin dairy farmer backs 50 cent milk assessment
Owen Clark County dairy farmer John Hunt is among a small group supporting a Dec 1 50 cent per hundredweight milk assessment halted by lawsuits. He favors free enterprise, calls for less government in business, and plans to endure the assessment though he worries of price drops without supports. Hunt and wife Donna started with 12 cows on 110 acres in 1976, growing to 32 cows, and he foresees a possible $1,800 loss next year while hoping the market finds a new price level.
