Harris Cheese Factory owner Sylvester Harris of Unity tried selling his Colby and Hojack cheese direct to Florida consumers in a west coast Tampa area. He shipped 14 700 pounds in 13 pound longhorns, but found little local demand, broker resistance, and health permits blocking smaller packaging. He sold 6 000 pounds in Florida with 3 700 dollars profit to a relative and 900 pounds himself, including 600 at a flea market, concluding direct selling there is not viable for a small producer.
