Wisconsin lands conservation bodies undergo reorganization
Clarence Durban of the NACD notes Wisconsin shifts soil and water programs from the Board of Soil and Water Conservation Districts to a Land Conservation Board linked to the agriculture department. County boards now host Land Conservation Committees with broader citizen representation. WLCA officials describe independence from staff, cross agency cooperation, and plans to affiliate with Wisconsin Counties Association to bolster county conservation roles.

Wisconsin Award Honors Trempealeau County Conservati
Ken Myers, Trempealeau County Land Conservation Department, received the 1983 Wisconsin Outstanding Land Conservation Department Employee Award at the state association meeting in Eau Claire. Clarence Keleher presented the honor as Myers and colleagues promote soil and water conservation efforts. Durban noted that conservation work delayed by the PIK program spurred farmers to propose a conservation PIK. Farmers reportedly offered to set aside production acres for conservation practices.
