Resources board narrowly opposes ELF plan
The state Natural Resources Board voted 4-3 to oppose the Navy's Project ELF submarine communications system expansion in northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. A resolution said hazards are not clearly defined or adequately researched and raised unresolved questions on human health effects from ELF radio waves and long overhead antenna lines. A Clam Lake test transmitter used by Sylvania Corp. sent signals to subs with 28 miles of antenna.
