Newlyweds Face $30,000 Bill Over Wisconsin Fish Kill
Randy and Joan Bender of Manitowoc wed Aug 17 amid a major farm crisis after 50,000 gallons of liquid manure discharged from a malfunctioning Harvestore Slurry store killed fish along the Meeme and Pigeon Rivers. The couple awaits DNR action on restitution as they install a backup valve and prepare for possible penalties. The incident, one of Wisconsin’s worst recent fish kills, drew neighbor support and scrutiny of the farm’s equipment and reporting.
