Nellies Farm Fund raises 380000 via crossstate tractor trek

Basketball coach Don Nelson led a nine day tractor caravan from Milwaukee to Wausau to raise funds for farmer aid. Wheat referendum passes with 54 percent support

A non binding wheat farmers referendum shows 54 percent of valid ballots in favor of mandatory production controls to cut surpluses and raise prices, while 78 percent of eligible voters did not participate. Of 1.565 million ballots mailed only 346 thousand were returned, 319,408 valid, 171,389 in favor and 148,019 against. Agriculture Secretary Lyng urged a no vote.

Morning Glory AMP merger would form largest dairy co op

Wisconsin would host the nation’s biggest dairy cooperative after Morning Glory Farms Shawano and the Mid-States Region of Associated Milk Producers Inc approve a merger plan from their boards. The deal would unite the groups by October 1 creating about 147.5 million in farmer patron equity and more than 12 000 members.
