Shell Lake hosts Town and Country Days September 11 to 13 with a parade, tractor and horse pulls, and multiple festivities led by the Shell Lake Chamber of Commerce. Six Polk County 4-H members toured Washington, D.C. this summer. Events include a Sept. 11 farm tour and Shell Lake versus Turtle Lake football game, plus a Sept. 12 horse pull, relay, kids activities, and a coronation. The weekend features an open museum house, a Miss Town and Country 1981 coronation, a community theater production, and a Sept. 13 pancake breakfast, parades, pulls, and contests alongside carnival rides, bingo, and food stands.
Peggy Deline of Menomonie earned fifth place in the Wisconsin Beef Cook-Off held in Madison during July Beef Month. First place went to Gene Schilling of Kenosha, who will represent Wisconsin at the National Cook-Off in Sioux Falls September 23 to 25.
