Payback plan discussed for Tyrone loss by Dairyland board
Dairyland Power Cooperative faces a 10 million dollar share of Tyrone nuclear plant losses after the project’s cancellation. The board may spread the hit over five years, raising rates by about seven tenths of a mill per kilowatt hour, with cost impacts for both residential and farm customers. NSP Wisconsin faces an 80 million dollar loss, allocated mainly to Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota customers. The utilities plan to replace Tyrone with coal fired plants and aim for in service by 1987, though the Tyrone site’s nuclear potential remains a talking point.

Farmers report setaside acreages in St. Croix County
About 73 percent of the farmers who originally signed intentions to participate in the 1979 Wheat and Feed Grain Setaside Program in St. Croix County reported their acreages by July 10. This means they are eligible for program benefits, according to county ASCS director Ralph Larson. He reminds participants that setaside acres must have winter cover, weeds must be controlled, no mechanical harvesting allowed in 1979, grazing permitted after Sept. 15 unless wildlife use is requested, and final payment date has not yet been set by the county office.

Beeworld Madison Lab to Host Open House Details
The U S Department of Agriculture North Central Bee Research Laboratory in Madison will hold an informal open house on August 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors can view current beekeeping research, displays, and equipment. Lab leader Eric Erickson invites attendees to bring bag lunches. the site is at 5105 Mineral Point Road near Whitney Way and West Beltline Highway.
